If you want to get dental implants in child teeth with sinus communication, the dentist will assess the distance between the sinuses and the jaw. The dentist will also want to check how much bone tissue you have in your upper jaw. If the sinuses are too close to the jaw or if there are not enough tissue in the upper jaw, the doctor will perform a sinus lift. This gives extra bone tissue to the upper jaw so that the implant can be secured.

Rules of procedure
Sinus lift is a surgical procedure and there are different ways to accomplish a lift. Bone tissue will be taken either from the patient, an animal, a donor, or a synthetic source. One way is by cutting the gums and push the diaphragm into the sinus, away from the jawbone, to create a gap. The cover is then filled with the bone tissue material. Another way is to use the latest technology from DIVA implants and lifting the bone and membranes at the same time using the implant itself. The bone tissue penetrates the implant which has 3 holes at its end and creates a retention after 6 months.

Wait
It takes about 4 to 6 months for the bone material to merge with existing bones to get a solid place for the implant. However, with DIVA implants the bone tissue is placed at the same time as the implant it self.

Aftercare
When the procedure is complete, the patient will probably experience inflammation of the sinuses and may have some minor bleeding from the mouth and nose. Blowing one's nose should be avoided at all costs as this can cause bone material to move from one place to another in the sinus. Sneezing should also be avoided. Doctors often prescribe medicine to keep a patient from sneezing in the months following the procedure.

Postoperative
For the following months after surgery, the dentist will encourage his patients to use a saline spray that helps keep the nasal cavity moist.
